The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), the 25,000-member political powerhouse in New Jersey has announced its support for Phil Murphy for governor. To follow is a statement from LIUNA Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager Raymond M. Pocino.
“For New Jersey to truly thrive, we need to rebuild our economy and invest in all types of infrastructure – from transportation to water to energy. Investments like these, as well as into other critical areas like education and job training, will help to provide relief to working families throughout our state. Phil Murphy comes from outside of the political establishment and has shown a willingness and ability to think outside-the-box to solve problems and create opportunities.
The 25,000 members of LIUNA in New Jersey literally work on building a better state for everyone. Their labor produces the buildings we use and the infrastructures we rely upon. They know a leader when they see one, and Phil Murphy is a leader.
New Jersey needs to be an affordable place to live, a place with family-supporting jobs, good schools, clean water and air, safe communities and a government that works for the people. Phil Murphy has both the ideas and the skills to move New Jersey forward, which is why LIUNA is enthusiastically offering its endorsement and support. Our members believe in political engagement and will work hard over the next 13-months to support Phil Murphy, a leader who will work for us.”
