How can I become a member?

Are you new to the field of construction with little-to-no experience? See how to apply for the NJ CCLAP here.

Are you presently working or do you have prior experience in construction? In some instances NJCCLAP can award credit for prior experience. Find out more here.

If you were honorably discharged from the military in the last 12 months, you may be eligible for LIUNA’s Military Direct Entry Program, which fast-tracks applications.

Qualifications to Join

18 years of age or older.

Physically able to perform the work of the trade.

Valid and current driver’s license.

Must be able to read and write the English Language.

Must submit to a drug test in compliance with current drug testing standards.


The Application Process


No Experience

Must apply in person at one of the Laborers three training centers.

Must bring valid and current driver’s license when applying.

All qualified applications will be invited to the next available apprenticeship orientation.

Note: an invitation to an apprenticeship orientation does not guarantee membership into the program. Further testing and interviews are required. Please read the FAQ’s section to learn more.


Experience

Must apply in person at one of the Laborers three training centers.

Must bring valid and current driver’s license when applying.

Must provide work history with W-2s, or payroll records/paystubs. Contractor(s) verification letter on letterhead and/or Local Union Business Manager verification.

If work history is verified with 4,000 hours within the last 10 years, applicants will be exempt from the apprentice program.

If work history is less than 4,000 hours within the last 10 years, applicants will be processed through the next available apprentice class, providing they meet all other qualifications. Applicants will receive proportional credit for prior work experience.

Former Military

Must apply in person at one of the Laborers three training centers.

Must bring valid and current driver’s license when applying.

Must bring proof of service DD-214 when applying.

Modified Direct Entry Program. Service members honorably discharged in the last 12 months may apply for the apprenticeship program and will be fast tracked into the next available class if qualified.
