Welcome
to the Web Site of the Eastern Region of the Laborers International
Union of North America (LIUNA). Through the information presented
here, we hope to introduce you to the many programs and activities
undertaken by our union, and to the comprehensive list of services
and benefits we provide for our members.
Our great union is about representing working people in diverse
occupations that span the broad spectrum of the American economy,
and in helping our members build better lives for themselves and
their families. It is also about cooperating with our signatory
contractors to market our skills, develop jobs and improve standards
within the construction industry.
LIUNA
wants its 45,000 members in the three-state Eastern Region to consider
our union to be an excellent career choice for themselves and their
families. To achieve that, we have to give them a competitive edge
that enables them to get the best jobs and the best benefits
and to further their careers to the fullest extent possible. We
have to provide them with the best training
and education opportunities at the best facilities in the construction
industry and ensure that they have a safe
and productive workplace.
The
Laborers International Union has evolved over the past century from
a time when being a Laborer required only a strong back to an age
when it requires highly technical skills. Here in the Eastern Region,
I believe we are ahead of the curve in protecting the rights of
our members and in forging important alliances to generate jobs,
stimulate the economy, influence public policy and improve our standard
of living.
LIUNA
is well positioned to meet the challenges of the new century. Today,
as in the past, unions remain "the best and most suitable means
of helping our individual members to better their condition to the
utmost in body, mind and property."
